The long wait is finally over! As of 1 July 2021, Phuket is now the first destination in Thailand to welcome back international travelers without quarantine requirements under the “Phuket Sandbox” scheme.

What is the “Phuket Sandbox” scheme?
Proposed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, “Phuket Sandbox” scheme is touted as a model for the reopening of Thailand’s tourism industry as a whole.
Who is allowed to enter Phuket under the “Phuket Sandbox” scheme?
International Travelers who have been fully vaccinated for more than 14 days but no more than one year prior to their visit, and they must enter Phuket by direct flights departing from low-to-moderate risk countries (see list) as announced by the Public Health Ministry of Thailand.
Unvaccinated children under 18 years old traveling with their fully vaccinated parents (with negative RT-PRC test results) are eligible for the Phuket Sandbox program and will also have to undergo Covid-19 testing upon arrival at Phuket airport (HKT).
What are the requirements under the “Phuket Sandbox” scheme?

International Travelers must present their vaccination certificates from their departing countries and the vaccines they have received must be approved by Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration or approved for emergency use by the WHO (Approved vaccines: BioNTech-Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Sinopharm, Sinovac and Sputnik V)
Travelers must also stay at the hotels that are Safety & Health Administration Plus (SHA PLUS) rewarded and they will be required to install contact tracing mobile phone applications called “Thailand Plus” and “MorChana” for the local authorities to track their health conditions during their visit in Phuket.
Additionally they will be required to undergo further COVID-19 tests as required by the Public Health Ministry.
What areas can the travelers visit?
Stay 7-night or shorter: International travelers are required to only remain in Phuket
Stay 7-night or longer: International travelers will be allowed to travel in selected areas in Krabi, Phang-Nga, or Surat Thani, and afterwards can continue their journey to other destinations in Thailand
After travelers complete their 7-night extension in selected areas in Krabi, Phang-Nga, or Surat Thani, and have tested negative in their 3rd RT-PCR test, they will be able to travel to the rest of Thailand
What is a SHA Plus Certificate?
All SHA certified businesses where a minimum of 70% of staff have been fully vaccinated, will be awarded The “Safety & Health Administration Plus” (SHA PLUS) hygiene standards certification by Amazing Thailand.
Andara Resort & Villas is among the first hotel businesses in Phuket being awarded The “Safety & Health Administration” hygiene standards certification (SHA) in August 2020 by Amazing Thailand, with almost 100% of our staff are fully vaccinated as of June 2021.
Mandatory documents required to be presented on arrival:
- Certificate of Entry (COE)
- Medical certificate with negative RT-PCR test result no more than 72 hours before their travel date
- Certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 no less than 14 days before their travel date
- Must have been staying in an approved home country for at least 21 days before departure
- Proof of reservation at a SHA Plus certified hotel
- SHABA document provided by a SHA Plus certified hotel
- Payment confirmation for RT-PCR tests (PSAS system)
- Copy of confirmed flight ticket out of Thailand (for stay less than 14 nights)
- Must install mobile applications Thailand Plus and MorChana to track health and location
- Proof of valid Covid-19 insurance policy with minimum coverage of US$100,000
RT-PRC Covid-19 tests at own expense during the stay in Phuket:
All travelers including all children* must undergo the 1st RT-PRC test at Phuket Airport upon arrival and wait for the test results in a SHA+ hotel room before being allowed to visit anywhere in Phuket.
All required testing must be prepaid through the travelers’ SHA+ accommodation per Government requirements.
Additional RT-PCR tests (Travelers aged 6 years old and above):
Stay 5-night or shorter: No additional RT-PCR tests is required
Stay 7-night or shorter: Travelers are required to take another test on Day 6 at the five designated swab centers
Stay 10 to 14-night: Travelers are required to take the 2nd test on Day 6 and the 3rd test on Day 12 at the five designated swab centers.
Note: The swab center at Patong Beach is located about 15 minutes from Andara
Under 6 yrs. Child Policy:
*Children aged under 6 years old will have to undergo one-time Nasopharyngeal Covid-19 testing upon HKT arrival and their fully vaccinated parents or guardians must receive negative RT-PRC test results upon entering Phuket.
